Water Conservation

Release Date: July 22, 2016

Dear Cortlandt Neighbors,

Thank you for your water conservation efforts as extremely dry conditions have resulted in record water usage.  With the recent rain, our water storage is currently near 90%; however, we request that residents adhere to the water use requirements for the remainder of the summer.  We also have learned that there are New York State reservoir drought issues.

In an effort to conserve our water, please do the following:

  • Residents or businesses located at even-numbered addresses may water lawns, shrubs, plants and gardens only on even-numbered days.
  • Residents or businesses located at odd-numbered addresses may water lawns, shrubs, plants and gardens only on odd-numbered days.
  • Residents and businesses located at addresses that are neither odd-nor even numbered, such as numbers that end in a fraction or letter, shall follow the schedule for even-numbered addresses.  (This provision does not apply to plant nurseries and other commercial water users engaged in the business of growing, distributing, or selling plants, shrubs or trees, only with respect to the use of water on their business premises for watering such plants, shrubs or trees.)
  • Swimming pools shall not be filled on weekends.

Again, we thank you for conserving one of the Town’s most valuable resources, water.

Jeffrey C. Coleman, PE
Director of DES/Water
