Department: Town Supervisor

Town of Cortlandt Goals by Supervisor Puglisi

Release Date: July 21, 2017

2017/2018 Goals

  1. Finances:  Continue our very low town tax increase record (only 1% increase over 26 years), low debt, always a surplus, never a deficit and an excellent fund balance.

  1. Address all of the challenges that come with the Indian Point nuclear plants closing in 2020/21 as announced by Entergy and Governor Cuomo this year (loss of revenue, loss of jobs, cleanup of land, re-use, etc.) with our local and State task forces.

  1. Paving/resurfacing throughout the town, $2 million (no borrowing) a total of $5.5 million in 3 years.

  1. Completion of another important water storage tank off Croton Avenue (total cost $2.2 million, with 1,621,500 gallons).

  1. A larger trail network throughout the town (for biking, walking, jogging).

  1. Our Viet Nam 50th Anniversary Memorial dedication June 9th at town hall and we always support all of our Veterans.

  1. Research to place a bubble over town pool for winter use.

  1. Have an indoor ice skating rink to have built privately in the town.

  1. A new position for our Spring/Summer season – a parks ranger to assist the Town of Cortlandt with monitoring our many parks.

  1. Reconstruct the Town’s bathhouse and snack bar at our Town pool to add to our other amenities (later in the season).

  1. Implement policies from our award winning Sustainable Master Plan.

  1. Support the Cortlandt Community Rowing Association initiated by Councilman Frank Farrell.  A big success!

  1. Support the initiative of Councilman Seth Freach – a trail challenge network behind the town pool area and construct in 2017.  This will be another exciting recreational project for our community.

  1. Continue to work with our Cortlandt Coalition in our Recreational department for the prevention of substance abuses.  This is a very important issue and challenge in our area and throughout the nation.  We will hold additional forums on these topics throughout the year.

  1. A redesign of our town’s website will occur later this year to make it easier to use and to view our important information.

  1. Continue to look for ways to share services with other municipalities in order to meet NYS mandates and to save money for our taxpayers.

  1. We will be adding a minimum of five new large vehicles to our town’s fleet for approximately $600,000.  This total, along with the ten purchased or leased last year for $1.56 million is $2.6 million spent on our vehicles and large, heavy equipment replacement plan in a two year period.  Once again, without borrowing.  “Pay as you go” has been our fiscal policy for these purchases for 26 years and will continue.
