March Nor’easters Update and Report

From Supervisor Linda Puglisi

(October 18, 2018)

On Tuesday, October 16th, I attended a Con Edison follow-up meeting in Rye to further discuss the two major Nor’easter storms of March 2018.

In attendance were Con Edison officials including their President, Mr. Tim Cawley, other elected Supervisors and Mayors throughout the County and Directors of highway departments.  Jeff Coleman, Director of Cortlandt’s D.E.S. which includes highway, also joined me.

Since these storms which initially left 4,000 homes without power in Cortlandt and some for almost two weeks, I have voiced our many concerns, issues and yes criticism of Con Ed’s slow response to these outages.  I attended several Con Ed meetings, spoke out at a NYS PSC public hearing, and wrote press releases and updates for our residents put up on the town’s website.

At the meeting we were told by the Con Edison President that he had heard my voice and the comments of many others and said the company has and will make improvements.

I am attaching to my report the list of improvements Con Edison will make regarding storm response.  We welcome these changes and are hopeful that during the next severe storm the corrections will be implemented.

Note:  The Town of Cortlandt is the first community in Westchester County to have a Con Ed pilot program to address hazardous trees.
