Remembering September 11th

Release Date: September 11, 2017

The 2017 September 11th Memorial

Remarks by Supervisor Linda Puglisi

I am honored and privileged to be part of a community that comes together to remember and honor the victims of September 11, 2001.  Sixteen years ago, on a bright sunny day our nation was attacked by terrorists and our lives changed forever.  It was right after Labor Day weekend, families were back from vacations and children were back to school.

It was a new decade and a new century with all the promise of a new era in our Country.  Suddenly everything changed forever.  Planes flew over the Hudson River with their target, the World Trade Centers.  Another plane hit the Pentagon and one crashed into a field in Pennsylvania killing in total 3,000 wonderful individuals.

We remember them all as our heroes.  They will never be forgotten – Nor will all of the first responders who risked their lives to save others.  For that is what they do, they Help Us!  They went immediately to Ground Zero, into the towers, into the Pentagon and searched the remnants of the plane in Pennsylvania looking for life. It was a very sad time in our Country’s history.

We also are forever grateful for the men and women who have and still are defending our great Country to keep us safe at home.

On that tragic day sixteen years ago and since we lost in our

Cortlandt/Croton/Buchanan community:

William F. Abrahamson

FF George C. Cain

PO Stephen P. Driscoll

James A. Oakley

Gregory E. Rodriguez

Thomas E. Sinton III

Randal L. Sprance

Joseph J. Zuccala

Michael R. O’Hanlon

Bless them all and their families.

We will always be grateful to our volunteer task force led by Janet Mainiero, whose tireless energy brought us all together to select this beautiful location (Croton Landing by the Hudson River) for our Remembrance Memorial, named “Reaching through the Shadow.”  Thank you to all members who worked so hard to make a dream became a reality and of course to the architect and designer, James Rhodes, and to our sculptor, Lauren Davis, for their vision and creativity. Thank you and God Bless America.
