Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the State, County, and Town governments have modified the 2020 tax payment schedule and penalties for payments due April 30, 2020.
Certain taxpayers may qualify to extend their tax payment due date to July 15, 2020 without penalty. To qualify, each taxpayer must: (i) meet the requirements of the certification found here [Individual Tax Payer Certification; Business Entity Taxpayer Certification; Rental Property Taxpayer Certification]; and (ii) submit the Certification Form accompanied with tax payment to the Tax Receiver’s office no later than July 15, 2020. Because the tax payment must be accompanied with the Certification form Online payments will not be available for taxpayers who qualify for this extension.
If taxpayers do not qualify for the payment extension to July 15th, then they will be expected to pay their taxes by April 30, 2020. Online payments will be accepted at www.townofcortlandt.com/tax. Should taxpayers remit payment after April 30th, the following penalties, which have been reduced for 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, will apply:
|June- July 15th||1.0 %|
|July 16th- July 31st||5.0%|
|August and September||7.0%|
