Message to Cortlandt

From Supervisor Linda Puglisi

Today, September 22, 2020, I was a participant in the NRC’s Indian Point Energy Center (owned by Entergy) 2020 Government Meeting.  I was joined by officials from the Federal, State, County and Local governments.

The purpose was to hear the annual report assessment of Indian Point’s nuclear plants, the decommissioning process and the final shutdown in April 2021. In April 2020, the first nuclear plant was closed.

I asked many safety questions, as I have been doing for years at public hearings and at conference calls.  For example, regarding safety of the Aim gas pipeline that was approved by FERC several years ago that we protested for years with others.

Also, I asked if NRC monitors would continue once the plant closed.  They said yes.  I requested a copy of their findings on the gas line safety.

The environment of the 240 acres at Indian Point is important to be protected during the dismantling, I stated. Including the 33 wells and Hudson River, which abuts Indian Point.

I wanted to know what safety precautions will take place during decommissioning and will the NRC be on site to monitor. They said yes, periodically.

These and many other questions will be brought to the NRC and other agencies from me as we proceed.

                                                                                                                Thank you,

                                                                                              Supervisor Linda Puglisi
