Cortlandt Fiber Arts: Helen Buerger
In its final weeks, Cortlandt Fiber Arts: A Contemporary Survey explores contemporary trends in fiber-based works. Working with fiber as a medium presents an artist with many unique challenges. Unlike painting, drawing or even photography in this digital age, fiber requires careful consideration and planning to arrive at a final composition. A fiber artist cannot quickly draw or paint a line to describe or define a form, two differing hues must be carefully manipulated to border the other to achieve the same affect. In Helen Buerger’s works, draws on traditional outlines and adjoined hues to define the forms of her compositions resulting in a flat and graphic picture that is soften and enriched by her use of fiber.
“I have been rug hooking for over 15 years and love working with assorted fibers to create a variety of designs.” - Helen Buerger
