In keeping with the past use of the parcel, the Town is reconstructing the current playground at the Verplanck Waterfront to be aviation themed. The land was previously owned by aviation enthusiast Jim Martin who owned the 6-acre seaplane aircraft base and other waterfront property. At one point, the seaplane landing averaged 85 aircraft operations per month! He donated 26 acres to the Town in 1991.

The proposed playground includes three playground equipment spaces: a swing set for all ages, a play area tailored to toddlers, and an area for elementary school children. The Town is pleased to start the design of this project to enhance our recreational spaces while honoring our Town’s history and heritage.
