As one of the younger artists included in this inaugural exhibition, Poppy’s work shows a sensitivity in mark making and attention to the surface of the work. The formal placement of the flower and emptiness of the composition could have resulted in a highly stylized and flat image. Poppy’s expressive brushstrokes and the textures they create provide a warmth and depth to the image that invites one’s gaze to linger.
