2020 SCAR petition protocol

Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES will ANY 2020 SCAR petition be accepted via email.

There are three options for submitting SCAR petitions to the Town of Cortlandt.

  1. By USPS and/or courier (FedEx; UPS; DHL, etc.);
  2. By Dropbox, located outside main entrance of Cortlandt Town Hall;
  3. In person, by appointment only, at Cortlandt Town Hall.
    1. You MUST make an appointment with the assessor’s office personnel & be placed on the building security calendar, so that the guard(s) will see your name in a specific date & time slot.
    2. Date-stamped receipts will be provided within a reasonable amount of time – determined by the assessor – and will be mailed to the petitioner or petitioner’s representative in a SASE, which MUST BE PROVIDED by the representative. If a SASE is not provided to the assessor’s office staff, there will be no receipt(s) sent.

The Assessor prepares the Tentative Assessment Roll which is published June 1 of each year. Assessments reflect the value as of July 1st (Valuation Date) of the previous year. Exemption forms are due on May 1st each year. The assessments are then used to apportion the amount of the Town, County and School District taxes to be levied against each parcel of real property.
